ON MODERN WORD-FORMATIVE TENDENCIES: HYBRID TELESCOPY AS MANIFESTATION OF LEXICAL HYBRIDIZATION (BY THE EXAMPLE OF THE JAPANESE LANGUAGE)

Abstract

The article is devoted to a poorly investigated lexicological phenomenon - lexical hybridization. The author clarifies the meaning of the term “hybrid” paying special attention to the criteria for identifying hybrids and examines one particular subtype of such words existing in the Japanese language - hybrid telescopisms. Such a hybrid is a fusion of two etymologically different components and is formed according to the formula ‘2 + 2’: two moras from each base word. Considering the number of reduced components and their sequence the author identifies four word-formative models of the Japanese hybrid telescopisms, provides a brief description of their morphological properties.
