“ECOCENTRISM” IN JOHN CLARE’S AND EDWARD THOMAS’S CREATIVE WORK

Abstract

“Eco-centric” literature becomes relevant nowadays due to the growing concern with environmental problems and the formation of a new literary trend, “eco-criticism”. The article provides the comparative analysis of the creative work of two English writers - the romanticist poet John Clare and the poet of the First World War period Edward Thomas. The paper identifies common features of their poetry regarding the interpretation of the nature theme. The emphasis is made on “eco-centric” aesthetics of their works, which manifested itself in conscious avoidance of anthropocentrism and accentuation of natural objects and phenomena.
