Rubaiyat Genre in the Tatar Poetry: Functioning and Translating Peculiarities

Abstract

The aim of the study is to identify peculiarities of translating Ravil Faizullin’s and Muhammat Mirza’s rubaiyat poetics into Russian. Scientific novelty of the research lies in the fact that the author for the first time considers the medieval genre of the Eastern poetry in Faizullin’s and Mirza’s creative work, as well as in the translations. The attained results have demonstrated that the ancient poetical form did not lose its vividness and profoundness in literature of the XX and XXI centuries. All the rubaiyat examples presented by the researcher make it possible to state the following: in addition to the themes traditional for this genre, the Tatar poets include social and political ones. As for the Russian-speaking poets-translators, they masterfully recreate the canonical form in their poems; moreover, they strive not after literal translation but after creative reworking of the original.
