Anglo-Welsh Relations in Ken Follett’s “Century Trilogy”

Abstract

The article analyses representation of the Anglo-Welsh relations in “Century Trilogy” by the modern British author Ken Follett. The novels describe historical events of the XX century through the eyes of five families: English, Welsh, American, German and Russian. Scientific originality of the study is conditioned by the fact that the problem of international and interethnic relations in the trilogy has not been previously investigated. The findings indicate that the social-political situation, historical events and features of the national character influence interethnic relations development. The writer actualizes the existing stereotypes concerning interrelations of these ethnic groups. The novel personage system includes both imaginary and real historical figures, which allows the author to show clearly the specificity of these interrelations.
