Specificity of Lexical Actualisation of ANGST Concept in the Modern German Newspaper Discourse (in Interview Genre)

Abstract

The purpose of the research is to identify distinguishing characteristics of dominant features that underlie the emotional concept ANGST/FEAR using material from digitised versions of the modern German printed media. The article explains specificity of conceptual study of “fear” in the German linguistic culture and presents an analysis of cognitive features actualising reasons for this emotional state, which are quite frequently and extensively discussed in the pages of the German-language printed versions of interviews. The study is novel in that it carries out a comprehensive analysis of relevant conceptual features of “fear”, which most clearly reflect the ethno-specific component of the analysed phenomenon in the modern German newspaper discourse. As a result, it is proved that preferential features acting as triggers for “fear” are economic crisis, caused by world financial instability, and social issues, brought about by coronavirus.
