Forms of condolence expression in Arab culture

Abstract

The objective of this research is to identify the structural, semantic, and social features of condolence expressions in Arab culture. The study analyzes traditional and modern forms of condolences, based on religious precepts and social norms, considering their functioning in various communicative contexts. Particular attention is paid to identifying universal and context-dependent forms that reflect key values of Arab society, including belief in fate, support for the bereaved, and preservation of social ties. The scientific novelty of the research lies in the identification and systematization of the structural, semantic, and pragmatic features of condolence formulas in Arab culture, taking into account their cultural, religious, and social aspects. The research concludes that these formulas perform not only a consoling function, but also serve as an important element in maintaining social solidarity and strengthening religious values. The results are significant for the study of intercultural communication and the development of practical recommendations for the use of Arab speech etiquette in professional and educational settings.
