Changing collocations of the lexemes "passion" and "charm" in the language of Russian poetry: a linguocultural aspect

Abstract

The purpose of this work is to identify the features of the Russian linguistic world image in connection with the functioning of the words "страсть" (passion) and "прелесть" (charm) in the language of Russian poetry. The scientific novelty lies in the fact that, for the first time, these lexemes have been subjected to linguocultural analysis, specifically using material from contexts extracted from the poetic subcorpus of the Russian National Corpus. The meanings of these words, realized in the constructions "страсть + к + Dat." (passion + for + Dative case) and "прелесть + Gen." (charm + Genitive case), are considered, taking into account the corresponding contextual environment. Those fragments of Russian linguoculture that do not undergo transformation and those that change over time are identified. The research established that passion is perceived as an agent, and the person who is under its influence as a patient. The negative semantics of the word are strengthened: the idea of lust is added, and a passion for destructive processes appears. At the same time, freedom and the pursuit of heights and victories are postulated as absolute values. Charm is initially presented as a cognizable (primarily by different senses) object, but later it acts as an agent that greatly enchants people; it can also appear and disappear. Nature and art, including the verbal arts, are often mentioned in connection with charm.
