The development processes of the essay genre in Mordovian literature

Abstract

This research aims to identify the features of the development and the structural-content originality of essayistic works in different historical periods of the development of Mordovian literature. Materials from different historical periods of the development of Mordovian literature, which are important in the study of the genre of the literary essay, are introduced into scientific discourse. The article analyzes the evolutionary processes of the literary essay genre from its origins to the present, which are an integral part of the development of Mordovian literature. The scientific novelty lies in the fact that the author has for the first time researched essays by Mordovian writers from different historical eras in archival issues of the journal "Syatko" ("Spark"), which have not yet been introduced into scientific discourse and are the basis for identifying the essential characteristics of the essay genre in Mordovian literature, reflecting both traditional features of the genre form and characteristics inherent in the Mordovian essay. Existing studies have examined the originality and problems of essays in individual collections, but a huge layer of essayistic material published on the pages of this journal has not been subjected to scientific understanding. By focusing on the national specificity of the problems of content and form of the essay, the ideological-thematic, typological originality of the essay is determined; the originality of the Mordovian essay is argued. As a result of the research, the features of the essay genre are revealed; the historical dynamics of the literary essay in the work of Mordovian writers are presented; ideological-thematic, compositional, typological, structural-content characteristics of the literary essay are identified, which contributes to the disclosure of the poetics and ideas of essayistic works.
