Specific features of the realization of the meteorological metaphor with the source domain “Wind” in S. Jio’s novel “Blackberry Winter”

Abstract

The aim of the work is to identify the specific features and analyze the realization of the meteorological metaphor with the source domain “Wind” in S. Jio’s novel “Blackberry Winter”. The article examines the role of the meteorological metaphor in constructing the individual author’s artistic worldview. It is shown that the meteorological metaphor serves as a means of ideological-semantic text construction, playing a key role in modeling the psychological space of the novel’s characters. Furthermore, the meteorological metaphor becomes a mechanism for influencing the reader of the literary work, guiding their perception of a particular situation and evoking specific emotions and feelings. The scientific originality of the research lies in identifying and describing the frame-slot structure of the meteorological metaphor in artistic discourse. As a result, it is demonstrated that the meteorological metaphor with the source domain “Wind” realizes the metaphorical model “Emotions – Air Element” in S. Jio’s novel “Blackberry Winter”. Moreover, symbolic meanings associated with wind in American culture underpin the metaphorical modeling of the novel’s psychological space; specific slots within the frame structure of the “Wind” meteorological metaphor in the novel were identified, and the lexical means through which the metaphor is realized in the text were determined.
