Interaction of discourses in English-language political communication
Abstract
English-language political communication is heterogeneous and possesses multiple discursive connections. The linguistic units within it indicate the presence of elements of various types of discourse. The aim of the study is to demonstrate the interaction of political and economic discourses in English-language political communication through linguistic units representing the extra-linguistic components of these discourses. The research’s novelty lies in nominating and highlighting the significant components of political and economic discourses within English-language political communication and defining the roles of participants in these discourses. The obtained results showed the presence of the following components of political discourse in English-language political communication: “participants”, “actions of participants”, “assessment of what is happening”, as well as the components of economic discourse: “participants”, “economic opportunities”, “characteristics of economic relations”. The behavioral patterns of political discourse participants who occupy key roles in political communication were identified: “leader”, “manager”, “analyst”, and “expert”. Participants in economic discourse are in a subordinate position, implementing political decisions.
