FUNCTIONAL-SEMANTIC FIELD OF CATEGORY “CHILDHOOD” IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE

Abstract

The author considers the functional-semantic field of the category “childhood” in the English language, which consists of central and peripheral elements. Central elements are verbalized by means expressing “childhood” as a certain stage of human development, as well as by lexemes that represent the essential and basic features of the child as a prototypical representative of this category. The author attributes to the periphery of the field under consideration the lexemes, which specify the basic and essential features, as well as slang means of expression and phraseological units.
