VOICE PARADOXES IN V. V. NABOKOV’S WORKS

Abstract

The article presents the analysis of the paradoxical solutions of character’s voice image in some Russian Nabokov’s works. In the article the research of the overtone and orthoepic features of voice, of its pitch and range is carried out, as well as of the functional significance of this image in the creation of the comic beginning in the artistic world of the writer. The provided data show that the writer often treats his characters’ voices as the vocal formation, and in connection with this they relate to such operatic voices as bass and contralto. In the article the author suggests that the image of voice in Nabokov’s works may belong to both the forms of the characters’ behaviour and to their portrait characteristics.
