AN IMAGE OF AMERICAN MILITARY MAN IN THE WORK BY R. TYLER “THE CONTRAST”
Abstract
The article examines an image of a military man as it is represented in the play by R. Tyler “The Contrast”. Investigation of this image allows seeing the contrast between a military man personifying the features of arising American self-consciousness and an elegant gentleman, descendant of European culture. R. Tyler’s play, written at the end of the XVIII century, shows patriotism of an American officer, his extreme care for his country and his relatives. He is characterized by honesty and integrity, courage and bravery.
