JAPANESE CATEGORY OF POLITENESS AS A TRANSLATION PROBLEM IN THE FRENCH AND RUSSIAN VERSIONS OF AN ANIME FILM BY H. MIYAZAKI “SPIRITED AWAY”

Abstract

Translations from the Japanese language are distinguished by special difficulty as a result of the considerable cultural and structural peculiarities. The article examines the problem of transfer of the Japanese category of politeness - one of the specific features of the Japanese language - in the translations into the French and Russian languages of an anime film by H. Miyazaki “Spirited Away”. Analysis of certain fragments shows what translation transformations allowed transferring the content most accurately, preserving communicative intentions of the speakers and emotional background of the statements.
