SEMANTIC DERIVATION IN THE GERMAN PHRASEOLOGY

Abstract

The article provides linguistic analysis of the process of formation of the new phraseological units on the basis of the phrases from F. Schiller‘s works. The paper reveals the specifics of the semantic derivation process from the phrases of literary origin which involves the loss of author’s original associations. The researcher identifies the general tendency of semantic transformation of the original units which presupposes abstracting from their meaning. The total number of semantic derivatives from F. Schiller‘s phrases is identified - 310 phraseological units.
