SYMBOLIC FUNCTION OF A LANGUAGE AS A TRANSLATION PROBLEM (BY THE EXAMPLE OF THE STORY BY E. I. ZAMYATIN “THE CAVE”)

Abstract

The article examines the actual principles of word association and translation difficulties motivated by this factor. For the first time the paper analyzes the problem of differentiating between the discourse of original literary work and the translation reader’s discourse from the viewpoint of preserving text’s symbolic function. The author concludes that, though the explicative potential of the translated literary work is presented to the reader in a slightly modified form, this fact does not depreciate the quality of translator’ work.
