ENGLISH LINGUO-CULTURAL ALIMENTARY CODE: LINGUO-SEMIOTICS OF PHRASEOLOGISMS AS THE UNITS OF FIGURATIVE SEMANTICS

Abstract

The article is devoted to studying English phraseological units as the linguistic and cultural signs semantics of which is associated with linguocultural gastronomic (alimentary) code. The figurativeness of the mentioned phraseologisms - gluttonyms and phrasal verbs - is analyzed considering their functional characteristics in correlation with gastronomic cultural meanings representing both alimentary and non-alimentary (ethical, social, institutional) preferences of the English ethnoses.
