ANIMALISTIC IMAGE-SYMBOL AS EMBODIMENT OF THE ARCHETYPE SHADOW IN T. WILLIAMS’S DRAMATURGY
Abstract
The article is devoted to the analysis of plays by the famous American playwright T. Williams “The Night of the Iguana” and “Orpheus Descending” in order to reveal the presence of the archetype “shadow” in them, which is one of the key archetypes in the structure of the personality in accordance with the theory of the collective unconscious of the Swiss scientist C. G. Jung. Special attention is paid to animalistic images-symbols as a possible form of realization of the named archetype. Archaic and in many ways primitive source of the origin of the archetype “shadow” enables the author of the article to draw a conclusion about the presence of a certain wild component in the personality structure of the characters created by T. Williams.
