ANTONYMIC TRANSLATION AS A SPECIAL TRANSLATION TECHNIQUE

Abstract

The article studies the specific features of the antonymic translation as a transformational technique. This translation method has found wide spread in the conceptions of the leading representatives of the domestic theory of translation. In this paper a comparison of the ideas of the Soviet and Russian linguists concerning the antonymic translation is carried out. It is found that, despite the similarity of definitions, there is no unity among researchers about the classification of this type of transformation. Nevertheless, it is stated that the antonymic translation is an autonomous translation. It consists not only in changing the affirmative construction into the negative one or vice versa, but also in replacing the original words by combinations of the translation language with the antagonistic meaning. As a result, it is demonstrated that the antonymic translation, as before, finds an effective application in modern translation practice.
