LIFE CYCLE OF PLANTS AS A MEANS OF ECONOMIC REALIA CONCEPTUALIZATION

Abstract

The article makes an attempt to conduct the linguo-cognitive study of plant metaphors in English-language economic texts published in the media. The system of frames is revealed, which represents the conceptual metaphor ECONOMICS AS A PLANT in specialized texts from ‘The Guardian’ newspaper. The source domains for this metaphor are the stages of agricultural plants development. In the process of the analysis it is found out that the life cycles of plants are associated systematically with the current economic realia. Plant growth involves significant changes, and therefore appears to be the ideal source domain for the conceptualization of economics.
