IDENTIFICATION OF UNIVERSAL STRUCTURES FOR ALLITERATED ELEMENTS DISTRIBUTION IN THE OLD ENGLISH POETIC TEXT

Abstract

The article deals with the structural peculiarities of alliteration functioning in the Old English poetic texts. The aim of the work is to identify the universal structures of alliterating elements placement within a long poetic line, taking into account the peculiarities of the rhythmic stress placement. The resulting pattern of the distribution of alliterating consonants by feet and half-lines in correlation with the opposition of stressed/unstressed syllables can be applied synchronistically to other poetic texts of this historical period.
